Wavelet Multiresolution Fairing of Curves and Surfaces
We derive and implement the wavelet decompositions and reconstructions of quasi-uniform B-spline curves and surfaces, and introduce a method to approximate a B-spline curve/surface by a quasi-uniform one, which is simple and efficient. We point out the feasibility of fairing curves/surfaces by wavelet technology and introduce the concept of wavelet-based fairing method. Methods to get a fairing curve/surface in any fairing tolerance are studied, and an error control approach and its improved one for wavelet-based fairing are presented. Samples are given to show the feasibility of the algorithms suggested. Comparison between wavelet-based fairing method and energy method is given.
